#277 - Spin Sunday

Last week was all spin week!
Tuesday was spin @ Coastal
Thursday was spin @ Seletar
Saturday was outrigger canoe paddling (<= how'd that get in there?)
Sunday was still spin spin spin @ the Green Corridor ;-)

I saw this sign at the Green Corridor .... It was on top of Hindhede Road.
But I ignored it and proceeded to spin my way up to Woodlands !!!

That is until I saw there was no bridge to Woodlands.
After scratching my head and looking around for a way to
get to the other side ... and finding none, I turned around
and spun my way back to the sign saying that there's
a bike shop there.

I went down from the Green Corridor and went to Hindhede
Road. I saw the bikeshop first before I saw the pink church
on the left side of the road. The MTB Brothers guys were there
and were already moving out to go to Esso.

The name of the bikeshop is Byx and they are bringing
in the Niner and KTM range of bikes. I didn't manage to
talk to anyone in there as the shop staff are busy. However, the
sign at the Green Corridor promises bike rentals, bike 'parking'
(not sure if it means they rent out lockers?), a washing bay,
and it seems they also serve food/coffee.

Anyway, after a short time salivating at the Niner items inside
the store, I decided to ease my suffering by quickly walking out,
hopping on to my bike, going up to Green Corridor and spun
my way back to Bukit Merah! After that, I had no choice but
to cycle back again because I need to wash my bike at
Esso in Dunearn Road. There, 2 laps of Green Corridor
took my mind off the Niner carbon RDO stuff.

Byx lets you take this bike for a test ride. Not sure though if
you can bring it inside Bukit Timah Trail.

#276 - Sunday Ride

Butterfly Trail

Now that I know where the Green Corridor starts,
I think it is a good idea to start from there and cycle
all the way to Rifle Range Road as a warm-up.

So as I was cycling through the Corridor, I was
thinking if I should go to T15 or Butterfly Trail.

Ahhh Butterfly Trail, I can actually use that name
now instead of Rooty Trail :-)

Just thinking that made  me decide to choose
Butterfly Trail over T15. Anyway, as I was cycling
through BF, I noticed lots and lots of reverse traffic!
It is evident that nobody was going the same direction
as I since I was going sooooo sloooowwww and yet
nobody was overtaking me.

I finally got to the point where I need to climb this
singletrack to get to the mango trees (yes, I know
they are NOT mango trees but they look like one).
The trail was blocked ! Instead there is now a trail that
leads to the left .... and much of the trail is uphill
over seriously big roots!

This section loops back to the entrance of Butterfly Trail
Now I know why people are favouring the reverse route!
If you go the reverse route, the start is mostly downhill.
Hehehehe next week I'll bring my Giant Reign with big
big tires ;-)

P.S. - I just remembered. If you take the open area from the
direction of Zheng Hwa Park going back to Rifle Range Road,
please be careful with the 'jumps' there. My friends and I called
for an ambulance for a guy who took a spill over there.
I have seen countless accidents over at that place.
Refer to pic below for the area that I am talking about.

Riders are heading towards direction of RRR.
The 'jump' is downhill somewhere at the middle of this pic.

#275 Sunday Ride - Green Corridor

NOT MY Surly but it looks impressive and
hence, I took this pic.

Bikes-bikes-bikes.blogspot.sg 's Anvil showed up for
this ride.

This is how that muddy Surly started the ride, all clean and nice.

2 Dahon's showed up for the off-road ride !

Nice fork !!!

The owner of this Voodoo Bizango is really into steel bikes.

Just before the ride.

After the ride @ Esso

After the ride @ Esso

Ok ok, it's 2014 and I am already awake.
No prizes for guessing what my New Year's Resolution is...
and now that I have just come down from Sleepy Mountain,
I went and registered for Love Cycling SG's Green Corridor Ride.

The group met at the Coffeeshop at Block 146 in Bukit Merah.
I cycled there and introduced myself to the organizer. Also,
true enough, even if this was an off-road ride, all sorts of bikes
were there. There were Dahon folding bikes, Surly fatbikes (one
owned by the Bikes-bikes-bikes' blogger Anvil), I spotted an
Aleoca and I even spotted a bike with an upside down fork (similar
to a Manitou Dorado).

The ride started by going behind Block 146 ... and then I got
confused because we went to Kampong Bahru Rd and then cycled
over some grass patch and then voila! , we were at the startimg
point of the Green Corridor.

The Green Corridor is the remnant of the Railway that used to connect
Singapore and Malaysia. The railroads have been taken out and now
members of the public can jog, walk or cycle on it.

Whenever I ask someone who has been to the Green Corridor how it's
like, I always get the same answer : muddy. However, on this ride,
even if it rained the night before, it wasn't as muddy as I expected
EXCEPT for some parts.

The ride went on smoothly. The only casualty was a broken chain from
one of the guys which was quickly fixed. The ride was supposed to go
to the Railway Mall but it was almost 10AM when we got to Rifle Range
Road. I have already informed the ride organizer that I will be breaking
off at this point ... and now I have a choice, whether to go to T15
or go window shopping.... arrgghhh my laziness won.

My view while eating Bak Kut The.

I went to wash my bike at Esso, had brunch at the hawker at Sian Tuan Ave
and then went to ogle at stuff I can't afford at BikePlus and T3 along
Bukit Timah Ave. I headed next to BikeHaus but they are closed on Sundays
(I forgot). I cycled along the pavement and went to Tay Junction but you
need to go up a short incline to get to the store, right .... Ahhhh I'm
still too lazy to do that and so I continued cycling along the pavement
until I got home.

Ahhhh easy, relaxed off-road ride, hot Bah Kut Teh in the end plus
windowshopping :-) what more can you ask for? ... yeah yeah of course
having more $$$ to be able to buy those items I am looking at is
always nice.

This shop sells the ever drool worthy Bont shoes.
I hope I get a pair as a Chinese New Year present ahem-ahem
